by Elizabeth Dwyer Visit Date:April 25, 2012 Room: Service: Facilities: Location: "This is written from the perspective of a mother of a 15 month old.Moonhut Bungalows is a great little place to stay in Maenam, if you are a couple who want a quiet getaway, of any age. The beach is kept beautifully and you have the restaurant/reception no more than 10m away from you. It is easy enough to get a cab to a different beach if you want more activity but the beach and sea really are lovely just here.Food in the restuarant is quick and pretty good. No childrens options and no small size dishes so its full price rather than some great places we stayed at where they accomodated for children.Breakfast is not included. The young staff that work here are wonderful. Inparticular Sun who was excellent with the baby who formed a real attachment to him. All of the staff are lovely so its such a pity that the owners are so standoffish and occasionally rude. The English owner snarls around as if the world has done him wrong, dont take it personally, he s like that with everybody! Again, as a mother I write this comment, if I were a backpacker it wouldnt faze me but the owners have huskie dogs that are not trained at all. They regularly begged in the restaurant and would come up and into your room and snarl if you tried to get them to leave. They are on face level with children. I LOVE dogs, I did not trust these dogs one bit. The beach: As I said, it is beautiful but there are no umbrellas so no shade away from the sun, again fine for sunbathing, not for kids. And in the shady area there are millions of ants, bitey ones. This review makes Moonhut sound poor. It is not. The accomodation is basic but clean and the staff are lovely. The food is fine and the location briliant. As a backpacker I would give this place a 3.5 out of 5. As a mother I would give it 2.Tip: Dont bother about the beach facing bungalows as only Bungalow one is actually beach facing. (although these are the only ones that have fridges). If you are not worried about teh Fridge ask for B2, you can see the sea from your balcony and its 500 baht cheaper!Oh, if you want internet you have to pay 900 baht for the privillage!!!! [R24 integr.ERR:escaping]" |

February 23, 2011 by Jim Goertz Visit Date:February 20, 2011 Room: Service: Facilities: Location: "Located right on the beach. Bungalow had very cold water only and a fan (all A/C rooms were booked). Small room, bed very worn out with springs poking out. Staff was not accomodating at all-didn t seem to care about guests. When checking in we asked if we can book an extra day and be out by 6:00 PM and they said they would let us know. We had a later flight out and when we inquired in the early morning they said that they gave the room to someone else. If they were smart they could of let us stay and get the rental income from us and also from a late arrival that evening. Not very good communication with the staff. [R24 integr.ERR:escaping]" |
by Kristine DeCaneo Visit Date:February 17, 2011 Room: Service: Facilities: Location: "My son and I spent 4 days at Moonhut and it truly felt like home. The staff is friendly and accommodating, they arranged taxis, tours and car rental for us and were organized and efficient. My son loved the swing set and there were many other children who passed through for him to play with. Our ocean bungalow was comfortable and clean, but when we switched to a garden bungalow it smelled very musty and had a leaky sink. The food was average but the restaurant was very convenient and we took almost all of our meals there. The beach had a terrific view but was nothing spectacular. It was raked often and the water was pretty clean but the area was small. We did not like the town of Maenam, there was too much traffic and no interesting shops. [R24 integr.ERR:escaping]" |
by Paul Visit Date:February 10, 2011 Room: Service: Facilities: Location: "Bungalows situated in quiet area of beach. The beach was probably the nicest spot along that stretch. We stayed in a fan bungalow, clean, basic and absolutely fine. Staff cleaned the bungalows and changed the towels every da, a really nice touch. Reception staff very helpful and after having left some items in the hotel at Surat Thani they arranged for these to be delivered to us, with no extra charge. All done with a smile. A good place to relax for a few days. Liked it alot and would go back there. [R24 integr.ERR:escaping]" |

The service was very good, very helpful with calling taxies. The only suggestions I would make are to get a few more umbrellas as they were usually used and more shade is needed. The other is that we really wanted to take a short snorkling trip but you boat was way too expensive. We had six people and would ve filled the boat but not at $450 each. Your food was wonderful. We often ate right there because it was the best on the beach. The kids loved the watermelon shakes. [R24 integr.ERR:escaping]" |
